Our Workplace Health and Safety Policy and procedures are found in the Policy Folder next to
the sign in table. You may like to know that:
• Equipment and the environment are checked on a regular basis to ensure it is of a safe
• Children are supervised at all times.
• Sunscreen is provided for your child before all outdoor play – however for preschool
we recommend that you put sunscreen on your child each morning before you come to
allow for the 20 minute window needed for sunscreen to become effective.
• Dangerous products are stored in a locked cupboard and/or out of reach of children.
• Children and staff wash hands regularly to help reduce the spread of infection.
• Staff wear gloves when handling food, cleaning products or for bodily discharges.
Emergency at home
We understand that from time to time family emergencies arise that affects your child here at
Preschool. Please let us know as soon as possible of any major changes for your family.
If you are running late for any reason, please phone us as soon as practicable.
Emergencies at Preschool
Your child’s care is of utmost importance to us. Therefore, if there are any changes to phone
numbers or other contact details for yourself, other family members or emergency contacts
please let us know as soon as possible. In the event of an emergency it is important that these
details are current and correct.
Flood and cyclones
In cases of severe flooding, flash flooding or a cyclone, the safety of the children and staff must
be considered. The Parent Management Committee reserves the right to close the preschool
during these events. During periods of extremely severe weather conditions, parents will need
to either phone the preschool or the Committee President to determine whether the service is
open. An announcement of closure will be posted on Facebook and emailed to the parents at
the earliest possible time.
If weather conditions become severe enough through the day that staff or some of the children
need to leave, then ALL parents will be contacted (or their emergency contact person) to
collect their child.
Please notify the preschool when your child will be absent due to localised flooding etc
Fire drills are scheduled each term. The drills will be noted in a fire drill log along with the
relevant dates and times.
In the case of a fire – a staff member will activate the fire alarm (which is the blowing of a
whistle). The Director/Nominated supervisor or Responsible Person in charge will call 000.
Staff will exit the children following fire drill procedures.
All will proceed to the top of the Preschool playground near the FLAG POLE, and attendance
will be checked. A staff member indoors will check bathroom and rooms for children and shut
